History of Teannaich

In 1996 the folk society of Edinburgh University received a request for a ceilidh band. After a few day of frantic phone calls and one rehearsal, Teannaich was born.

With musicians from a wide background of different styles, Teannaich provides a lively, entertaining evening of ceilidh dancing and music. The 5 piece band pull influences from Jazz, Rock, Funk and Folk, with a solid basis of traditional Scottish and Irish folk tunes they add energy and rhythm enough for dancing, listening and socialising.

Over the years they have become a regular in many of the top venues throughout Scotland, playing at The Cally Brewery, Edinburgh and The Riverside Club, Glasgow, gaining a keen following both within and without the folk community. This has taken Teannaich further a field, both in the UK and internationally, with performances as far afield as Inverness to Folkestone and Madrid to St Petersburg.

Teannaich have been in the studio a number of times recording a demo/limited release CD called “Don’t have a cow” in 1998 but their first full released album “Lucid “ was released after almost two years of recording in December of 2002.

Although ceilidhs are the main thing for Teannaich, they have regularly performed at concerts, with performances in Celtic Connections Glasgow and the Ross Bandstand in The Edinburgh Festival, as well as in various pubs and clubs particularly when on tour abroad.
